KB2002032601 - How to set up a Windows 10 on Macbook Pro using Bootcamp

Instructions

Step-by-step guide:

  • Boot under MacOS and update the macOS

  • Check the size of the disk after updates by going to Apple > About this Mac. Click the Storage tab

  • Download the Windows 10 ISO from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (latest version / English International / 64 bits)

  • Run the Finder > Applications > Utilities. Select the Boot Camp Assistant application

  • Under the Introduction, click the Continue button.

  • Under the Install Windows, select the ISO image and adjust the partition proportion accordingly.

The size is 973.3 GB available of 1TB. Used is 26 GB. New macOS download requires 15-20 GB.

As per advice to keep 64 GB free for MAC to run optimum, the proportion partition is 26 + 64 GB ~ 100 GB for MAC and 900 GB for Windows.

  • The pop up showed to enter the admin username and password to make a change on the disk

  • The machine reboots and it goes to the Windows partition automatically and the installation starts.

  • On Windows installation, select the Language to install to English (United Kingdom), Time and Currency format: English Australia and Keyboard or input method: US. Click the Next button.

  • Enter the product key for the Windows and click the Next button to install the Windows.

  • This asks to restart. Click the Restart button.

  • Under the Region, select the Australia option and click the Yes button.

  • Under the Keyboard layout, select the US option and click the Yes button.

  • Under the second keyboard layout, click the Skip button.

  • Under the setup, select setup for personal use OR set up for an organisation. Click the Next button.

  • Under Sign in with Microsoft, leave it blank. Click the Next button.

  • Click the Domain instead link.

  • Under the PC use, enter the username. Click the Next button.

  • Under the password, enter the password. Click the Next button.

  • Under the confirm password, enter the confirm password. Click the Next button.

  • Under the security question, select the “What is the name of the city where you born? - Rantau

  • Under the security question, select the “What is the name of the city where your parents met? - Medan

  • Under the security question, select the “What is your childhood nickname? - Isadewa

  • Under the privacy settings, keep the default selection as it is. Click the Accept button.

  • Under the Activity History, click the Yes button.

  • Under the Cortana help, click the Yes button

  • Windows reboot and the pop up shows about Welcome to Windows. Close the windows.

  • The Boot Camp application launch.

  • Under the Welcome, click the Next button.

  • Under the license agreement, select the I accept the term and license agreement option. Click the Install button.

  • The Boot Camp starts to install.

  • Under the Boot complete, click the Finish button to restart the machine.

  • Check if there is any updates for Boot Camp by going to Apple Software Updates application on Windows. If there is a Boot camp update, it will show up here

  • Also, on the taskbar, there is an icon for Boot Camp that you can control the option trackpad etc etc. Note: With the new Boot Camp, some options integrated to Windows directly.
