KB2204011401 - How to set up and test a Multi-Factor Authentication on Microsoft 365 account

This knowledge base is created for users who need to set up and test a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Microsoft 365 account.

The MFA will initiate when either Microsoft 365 enforces the accounts globally or the administrator enables this on individual account.

Instructions

Step-by-step guide:

Close all Microsoft 365 applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

Open any browser in InPrivate (Microsoft Edge) / Incognito (Google Chrome) / Private (Mozilla Firefox) window mode.

If you have multiple Microsoft 365 account, it recommended to do this method via opening browser in InPrivate (Microsoft Edge) / Incognito (Google Chrome) / Private (Mozilla Firefox) window to avoid the confusion with the other Microsoft 365 default account that you have.

Go to https://office.com

Click the Sign in button.

Enter the right email account and click the Next button.

Enter the password and click the Sign in button.

Click the Next button.

Select the Authentication phone option.

Then select the country or region. Enter the phone number (your mobile number).

Under the method, select the text message.

Click the Next button.

You will receive a text message and enter the code. Click the Verify button.

Click the Finish button.

The Multi-Factor Authentication has been activated.

Next, this will redirect to the Microsoft Office portal page.

 

To test this, log out from this Microsft Office portal.

Log in via https://office.com

Enter the email and password.

Select the text option.

You will receive a code via text message.

Enter the code and click the Verify button.

Click the Yes button to continue.
